Where we went:
Sunday we went left from the Old Ski Hill Rd to the Overlook. Tuesday was the last Wildflower class, we went to Devil's Track Lake and Pit Lake Bog.
Wednesday we had a long day and went: Up the Caribou Trail to the Ward Lake Road. to the maple woods but too many leaves had come out for flowers to bloom. So we went up Sugar Loaf Road, Cramer Road, Two Island River Road, #166, Temperance River Road. We had lunch at Tofte Park and then went to another spot on the shore of Lake Superior to see the Butterwort.

Flowers we saw blooming:
False Solomon's Seal - Smilacina racemosa
Cow-Parsnip - Heracleum maximum *
Three-leaved Solomon's Seal - Smilacina trifolia
Nodding Trillium - Trillium cernuum
Sweet Cicely - Osmorhiza clatoni
Pale Vetchling - Lathyrus orchroleucus
White Avens - Geum canadense *
Swamp Buttercup - Ranunculus septintrionalis
Blue-eyed Grass - Sisyrinchium ssp.
Bunchberry - Cornus canadensis
Clintonia - Clintonia borealis
Caraway - Carum carvi
Orange Hawkweed - Hieracium aurantiacum
Yellow Hawkweed - Hieracium scabrum
Mertensia - Mertensia virginica
Ox-eye Daisy - Chrysanthemum leucanthemum
Lupine - Lupinus polyphylus
One-flowered Wintergreen - or One-flowered Pyrola - Moneses uniflora *

Labrador Tea - Ledum greenlandicum
Thimbleberry - Rubus parviflorus
Red Berried Elder - Sambucus pubens
Mountain Ash, American - Sorbus americana
Moose Maple or Mountain Maple - Acer spicatum
Juneberry - Amelanchier spp.
Raspberry - Rubus idaeus *
Highbush Cranberry - Viburnum trilobum *

 

* new this week

Because the leaves are coming out in the forests there are not as many flowers there - but there is an increase in flowers along side the highways and roadways where there is more sunlight.
