A full house for Ruffed Grouse dinner

September 18, 2000

In addition to raising funds to create wildlife habitat, the members of the Ruffed Grouse Society (RGS) have fun - doorprizes, raffles, a silent and live auction and a great dinner at the Harbor Light Supper Club were all part of the Eighth Annual Sportsman's Banquet on September 7.
This year's Banquet was dedicated to the memory of Dale Honer, who passed away last December. Dale was a local Department of Natural Resources Officer, Ruffed Grouse Society committee member and friend to everyone in attendance at the dinner. RGS Committee member Clark Baldwin presented a Ruffed Grouse print to hang in Dale's memory at the Cook County North Shore Hospital. Doretta Honer and her son, Dustin Nelson and DNR Officer Conrad Tikkala were on hand to accept the painting in Dale's memory.
The Silent Auction offered over 40 items, ranging from limited edition RGS collectibles to hunting knives and deer stands. The Live Auction after dinner included more items created especially for RGS; beautiful limited wildlife prints, painted cedar chests and a handcrafted double rocker. Edie Mattson, of Grand Marais won a last minute "pick of the litter" auction, to claim any prize on the auction block. She took home a woven tapestry afghan featuring the RGS design, Ruffed Grouse Pair by Jim Foote.
And of course, there were the traditional gun raffles - and highly coveted raffles for guns. The gun winners are: Brian Olson, Shawn Perich, Hal Kettunen, Clark Baldwin, John McClure, Charlotte Benik and Kari Springer.
